Paguugnay-ugnay - Interconnecting

In celebration of Asian Heritage Month of May 2021

Paguugnay-ugnay - Interconnecting

May 2, 2021 @ 7pm

FREE via Zoom

A video dance showcases and conversation with Vancouver Filipino dancers on intersectional issues within the dance, arts and community.

An online event to explore the visionary creative dance work of upcoming talented young dance artists: Tin Gamboa, Sophia Gamboa, Ralph Escamillan & Joshua Ongcol. The artists share and converse about the evolving practice of dance for the digital era; the art and language of movements redefining culture, identity, migration and belonging as we face a more complex cultural shifting in our midst.

Facilitated by Vancouver’s award-winning choreographer and dancer Alvin Erasga Tolentino hosted by Co.ERASGA Dance in association with NPC3 (National Pilipino Canadian Cultural Centre).

Paguugnay-ugnay - Interconnecting is part of Ritwal- NPC3’s 2020-21 arts and culture series.

“Ritual – Arts in the Diaspora // Ritwal – Sining sa Diaspora
Creating (paglikha), invoking (pagsamo), and interconnecting (paguugnay-ugnay) are the ethos that preoccupy our gesture of gathering our community as we open our season for the National Pilipino Canadian Cultural Center (NPC3). Anchored on the invocatory utterances of celebration, we think of this opening as a ritual that deploys a conjuration of the potency of art in preparing for a season of harvesting (pagani) in the coming years.

We open this season with a series of activities not just to announce our capacity to create as community members, but also to seed a vision of a community that celebrates our interconnectedness in shared stories, common history, and intimate but complex heritage.”
